Statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Melissa Baldauff on the 41st Anniversary of Roe v. WadeThe following is the statement of Democratic Party of Wisconsin Communications Director Melissa Baldauff on the 41st anniversary of Roe v. Wade:
“On the 41st anniversary of a landmark decision in women's health, Roe v. Wade, we today reflect on those who have committed their lives to protecting and providing comprehensive reproductive healthcare for women all across the nation.
"In a Wisconsin under Republican control, every day is a reminder that the opponents of access to birth control and safe, legal abortions are working to eliminate the choices women make about their own bodies and lives.
"Scott Walker has an extreme and divisive record on women's healthcare dating back to his time in the legislature when he led the charge to restrict access to birth control and make abortions illegal -- without exception for victims of rape or incest.
"And since being elected governor, Scott Walker has continued his attacks on women's rights by signing legislation that mandates invasive, medically-unnecessary transvaginal ultrasounds for women seeking safe, legal abortions and makes unprecedented cuts to family planning services, preventive healthcare, and comprehensive sex education.
The only women who can't their own personal health decisions are those in the womb.“Today we not only celebrate a watershed court ruling in the history of women's reproductive rights, but we also reaffirm the commitment of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin to stand for the rights of women to make their own personal health decisions."
