Wisconsin Policy Research Institute raised the idea of increasing the state income tax from 5% to 7.5%, with a corresponding reduction of personal property and income taxes.
Well it got the attention of Sen. Lena Taylor and Rep. Tamara Grigsby who followed the release of the information with their own press releases about how the new Governor wanted to raise taxes and how it wasn't good for working families. Even a cursory reading of the press information would have informed them this was not the case.
Yet both of the Milwaukee legislators had no problems with their constituents paying a 1% sales tax increase via Milwaukee County and in fact, both of them supported the tax increase. It will be interesting to see how the door will swing and how much talking on both sides of their mouths will happen now that they are in the minority party in the state legislature. I say let the fun begin.
